AP letter to parents / new registration deadlines

September 8, 2019

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of AP Students,

As you know, your student is presently enrolled in one or more of Niskayuna High School’s courses which prepare students to take an Advanced Placement exam.  I am writing to inform you about the registration process and changes that are being made by College Board.

College Board is in the process of making many changes to the AP Exam process.  While the exams are scheduled from May 4th – May 15th, students must register by October 18th.  There is no late registration.

Instructions for Registration:
·     Registration will take place from Monday, October 7th through Friday, October 18th from 8:00 – 1:30 in the Counseling Center with Mrs. Gillen.
·     EACH exam has a fee of $94.  Students registering for multiple exams can bring one check to pay for all exams.
·     Fees must be paid by check (cash will not be accepted) at the time of registration.  Checks should be made payable to Niskayuna High School.
·     Registration must be completed, with payment in full, by October 18, 2019.

College Board has also initiated a $40 return fee for any exam that is returned untaken which will be incurred by the student.  This fee will be deducted from any refund that you may be provided.  It is therefore imperative that students make an informed decision about registration.  Students should contact their counselors if there are any questions about college requirements or other issues.

If your student is identified by CSE as having a disability and will need test accommodations on an AP exam, please contact me immediately.  Also, if they qualify for our free and reduced lunch program, and needs assistance with the AP Exam fees, please see me immediately.

We are pleased to be able to offer this challenging academic program which can lead to college credit. Traditionally, the AP program has been a viable option for many Niskayuna High School students.  In 2018, Niskayuna High School had 298 students writing 508 exams.  Further information pertaining to the Advanced Placement program is available upon request, as well as, through the College Board web site http://apcentral.collegeboard.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Michelle Niro-Booth
